This was a fantastic event that raised over £2500 for local
charities and congratulations go out to the organisers for the money raised and making the whole thing go so smoothly.
Unfortunately I didn't arrive till mid afternoon so I missed much of the early bands including our good friends The Lizard
Kings but here's wot I thought of what I saw.
NIGHT SHIFT
Unfortunately I missed a large amount of their set due to us playing straight after them, but I tought they played quite
an enjoyable and varied set, changing tempo reguarly thus keeping the audience entertained.
DEVIL 2 PAY
D2P opened with 'The Devils Dance' which seemed to go down extremely well with the crowd. The
set progressed as it started - loud, heavy, energetic, and very tight. Jonny as ever spent half of his time in the crowd rocking
out with the D2P faithfull, whilst Phill, Paul and Rick did their shit up on the stage.
By mid set the crowd was buzzing and seemed to be loving the thumping beats so it was time to slow
things down slightly and create a more theatrical atmosphere, so Nosfertu was the ideal song to be next... The crowd loved
it as did the mosh pit (LK - you crazy guys). On a whole this was one of the best D2P performances to date, D2P come alive
on a big stage and really know how to work it.
PAUL ROSKELL
12year old local lad paul did not show any signs of nerves as he went through his set of covers. This lad has a great
voice for his age and is a good guitarist too. There were no obvious mistakes and the crowd seemed to dig him. Paul is
one to watch out for in the future.
VELOCITY
Next up were velocity, a 5 piece rock band that seemed to have some strong punk influences. They
played a very composed set set and did not look uncomfortable in front of such a large crowd. Their talent was plain for all
to see and again they really pleased the crowd with some great covers. At 14years of age these guys can really play and will
be awesome in a few years although they do need their own material. The only criticism was that knockin on heavens door was
too fast for my liking but hey you cant have everything.
DAZAMAKIZ BLUES BAND
Openning with voodoo child, a bit audacious I thought but it was fantastic. Great guitar work from former kiss of the
gypsy axe man Daz Rice and great vocals from Tom whom I am used to seeing behind a drumkit for the ladyboys. They continued
to get better and better playing a solid set of rock and roll classics. The set was full of great solo's and lead work,
intricate bass play and a solid beat keeping it all together. Considering they hadn't rehearsed this was an awesome performance,
a highlight for me personally.
